From the door along the Berkel

The hotel is on the Haaksbergseweg, about 400 metres from the centre of Eibergen. The Berkel flows right past Eibergen. This river is about 110 kilometres long, rises in Germany and joins the IJssel at Zutphen. In the past, flat-bottomed barges, the berkelzompen, carried goods along it. Some 700 metres from the hotel stands the Mallumse Molen, a watermill on an old arm of the Berkel. A mill on this spot is mentioned as early as 1424. A lovely first outing before you head further afield.

On fietsnetwerk.nl you will find the junction route ‘Eibergen van boven naar beneden’. It is about 32 kilometres long, has 18 junctions and runs via Eibergen, Neede and Haarlo. Along the way you can combine it with a trip on the Berkelzomp; volunteers sail replica zomp boats through the Berkel landscape. Sailing times vary, so please check them in advance. At reception we are happy to give you tips for other routes.
