Enschede is around 25 kilometres from De Kastanjefabriek. You stay in Eibergen, in a restored textile factory from 1834, and drive to the city or the University of Twente in about half an hour.
We are not a hotel in the middle of Enschede. De Kastanjefabriek is on the Haaksbergseweg in Eibergen, in the Achterhoek. By car you can reach the centre of Enschede in about half an hour. In return, you come back in the evening to the peace of the countryside, with free parking right outside.
If you are coming for a conference, a PhD ceremony or a visit to the University of Twente campus, Eibergen is a peaceful base. You drive via Haaksbergen to the campus in about half an hour. After the day you dine in our restaurant under the same roof and sleep in a room with air conditioning and a king-size box-spring bed.
Enschede is the largest city in Twente. Around the Oude Markt with the Grote Kerk you will find terraces and shops, and the Rijksmuseum Twenthe shows art from the Middle Ages to the present day. Football fans will know De Grolsch Veste, the stadium of FC Twente.
For a long time Enschede was the textile city of the Netherlands, like so many places in Twente and the Achterhoek. Our own building was built in 1834 as a cotton weaving mill. If the history of the region interests you, read the story of the factory.
