Our street is not called the Haaksbergseweg for nothing. Haaksbergen is about 9 km further on, ten minutes by car. You stay in Eibergen, on the Achterhoek side of the border with Twente, with the steam train, the Buurserzand and the raised bog close at hand.

One road, two regions

One road, two regions

Haaksbergen belongs to Twente, Eibergen to the Achterhoek. A single road runs between them, and our hotel stands on that road. You can drive to the centre of Haaksbergen in about ten minutes. By bike it is ±9 to 10 km, around half an hour. De Kastanjefabriek is a hotel with 28 rooms in an 1834 textile factory. There is a restaurant in the same building and you park free of charge on site, with two charging points for electric cars. So if you are looking for a hotel in Haaksbergen, with us you sleep just across the provincial border.

Steam train from the 1884 station

Steam train from the 1884 station

The Museum Buurtspoorweg runs steam and diesel trains between Haaksbergen and Boekelo. Journeys start from the original 1884 station on Stationsstraat, complete with a workshop and an engine shed. The trains only run on set operating days. Two dates for your diary: during the Autumn Steam Days on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October 2026, every steam locomotive will be in steam. On Sunday 15 and 22 November 2026 it is Sint & Stoom. You will find the other operating days in the museum’s calendar.

Walking on the Buurserzand

Walking on the Buurserzand

The Buurserzand is a Natuurmonumenten nature reserve near Haaksbergen: wet heathland, junipers, fens, small fields and low drift-sand hills. The 5 km walking route passes the historic farmhouse De Bommelas. If you start at the Ronde Bulten car park, you walk past the Harrevelder Schans, a fortification from 1590, dating from the Eighty Years’ War. At Rietschot there is an accessible viewpoint. And at De Wakel, volunteers serve coffee with apple pie.

Het Lankheet: along the Buurserbeek

Het Lankheet: along the Buurserbeek

Between Eibergen and Haaksbergen, along the Buurserbeek, lies the Het Lankheet estate: woodland, heath, fens, old farmhouses, meadows and raised fields. There are projects on water purification with reed beds and a climate forest, and walking and cycling routes run through it. A bike ride to Haaksbergen is therefore easily combined with a loop around the estate. At night your bike is kept dry and safe with us, and you can charge an e-bike. We will prepare a packed lunch for the road on request. Read more about our hotel as a base for cyclists.

The raised bog south-east of the village

The raised bog south-east of the village

About 3 km south-east of Haaksbergen lies the Haaksbergerveen, managed by Staatsbosbeheer. The yellow Armenveen route is 2.3 km long and leads through bog woodland and along embankments across the raised bog, with views of the bog pools. A short walk that combines well with an afternoon in the village. In the centre stands the Sint-Pancratiuskerk. Remains of a wooden church from around the year 1000 have been found on that site.

Back to the factory in the evening

Back to the factory in the evening

After a day in the open air, you can dine with us in the restaurant under the same roof. Dinner is served daily from 17:00 to 21:00. From 19 October 2026 to 17 January 2027 the kitchen also cooks a game menu, with game that largely comes straight from the hunter. Afterwards, you need not even step outside to reach your room. Choose a standard room, or a suite with a whirlpool bath for after a long walk.
